Halo House is Oil Nut Bay owner, Mr David V. Johnson’s own private home.  Designed by Kao Design Group as a vacation retreat for him and his family, it perches at the top of a hill, offering panoramic ocean views.  Centred around an expansive great room with cathedral ceilings, the property includes six bedroom suites, a chef’s kitchen, a gym, a media room and a pool with a waterfall feature.

AVL was contracted to design and install integrated audio, video, lighting control, shade control, fibre optic, copper and WiFi networks. In keeping with the vision for the development as a whole, aesthetics were of paramount importance, which necessitated some creative solutions.

Although the property is in one of the remotest parts of the BVI, the owner needs to work and be reachable at all times. AVL therefore brought service into the property via a fibre optic uplink connected to the incoming service provider’s communications tower and combined this with Ruckus wireless technology and Cisco switching and routing hardware, to ensure one of the fastest Internet links available and a consistent, reliable signal in every area.

Mr. Johnson is passionate about creating the best possible lighting scenes to optimise the architecture, art and details of the property. This was made possible by a panel-based Lutron lighting control system, which enables him to set the entire Villa to be ready for entertaining or watching a movie with the touch of one button.

For audio visual, one of the owner’s key requirements was very powerful and high quality surround sound experience in the media room. This was achieved using a combination of speakers by McIntosh, Leon and K-Array with Integra surround sound processing and 12,000W of K-Array DSP amplification. For the display, AVL used an 82”4K UHD Samsung in the media room and a second one in the living room mounted on a 6’ custom stainless steel extension to give the TV an appearance of floating in the room.

A Crestron control system makes all the systems easy to use and, combined with the Crestron app, means the owner can adjust settings and stream videos and music to the primary TV watching areas using his iPad.

“This project is a great example of how to incorporate advanced technology and make it very simple, reliable and in harmony with the architectural style” says Rusty Henderson, owner of AVL.
